PTSD in military veterans is now widely recognised and accepted. But PTSD in survivors of abuse remains hidden, often due to the shame and self-stigma of both the abuse and mental illness.
The shocking fact is that many military veterans may also be victims of abuse – especially sexual abuse – either in childhood or whilst serving in the military. PTSD is worsened by man-made trauma, as opposed to natural disasters.
Male, female, young, old… PTSD does not discriminate.
