Breaking news: first arrest in North Wales child abuse investigation – Operation Pallial
SOCA: Man Arrested by Operation Pallial
Officers attached to Operation Pallial, an investigation into recent allegations of historic child abuse in North Wales, this morning arrested a man in Ipswich, Suffolk, on suspicion of a number of serious sexual offences against a number of individuals.
The man is being taken to a police station in North Wales, where he will be interviewed.
This is the first arrest by Operation Pallial, which began investigations in November 2012. The investigation is led by Detective Superintendent Ian Mulcahey of Merseyside Police, supported by officers and staff from the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre and forces across the country.
The officer with overall responsibility for Operation Pallial is Keith Bristow, Director General of the National Crime Agency. A report on the progress of Operation Pallial will be published next Monday.

The 20 years since the Orkney Islands satanic ritual abuse investigation also just passed. Were they calls from the children taken away (now adults) to say the authorities got it wrong? That their parents were innocent?
No. Not one of those reporting abuse spoke out to say the abuse did not happen.
Yet here we are post-Savile, post-SRA in Wales, post-ritual killings as newspaper headlines (‘Adam’ the torse in the Thames), and yet people try to debate the existence of ritual abuse.
The National Association of People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) received 1% of heir calls from victims of ritual abuse, which amounts to over 200 calls per year.
Why debate what exists, when we could tackle it?
- How about just acknowledging it and working out how better to prevent children?
- How do we improve the low conviction rates for rape, sexual assault and complex abuse cases?
- How do to improve support for the abused, and reduce the suicide rate and mental health problems resulting from long-term abuse?
